Island Adventure (2004)

Island Adventure is a video installation consisting of 14 interviews, shot in Nice, France, in 2004. 14 French participants shared their stories, which began by showing Asian objects to the camera. The interviews can be divided into two groups. Firstly, they showed me objects which their family members brought from Indo China during the period of French colonization. The second group consists of fictitious narratives about random “Asian” objects such as a Chinese rice bowl and a metal Buddha head which I bought from a flea market in Nice.

환상의 섬 (2004)

<환상의 섬>은 프랑스의 니스에서 진행된 14개의 인터뷰를 바탕으로 제작한 영상과 설치작품이다. 이 작품의 인터뷰에 등장하는 14명의 프랑스인들은 아시아에서 온 물건들을 보여주면서 인터뷰를 시작하고, 그 물건들에 얽힌 이야기들을 들려준다. 인터뷰 참가자들은 크게 두 그룹으로 분류 할 수 있는데, 첫번째 그룹은 프랑스의 인도 차이나 통치 시절, 그곳에서 거주했던 프랑스인들이 귀국하면서 가지고 온 물건들을 물려받은 그룹이고, 두번째 그룹은 내가 니스의 벼룩 시장에서 구해온 철제 불상 머리나 중국의 밥그릇 같은 '아시아'의 물건들을 임의로 제공 받은 후, 그 물건들에 대한 가상의 이야기를 가지고 인터뷰에 임하게 되는 그룹이다.
